Proxy Cache Configuration

This Appendix describes aspects of cache operation not explained elsewhere in this document. (The Proxy service cache is also discussed in Chapter 4, “Server Features,” Chapter 5, “Server Configuration,” and Appendix A, “Architecture.”)

Some users may be interested in using Catapult Server primarily for it's powerful caching features, with less interest in its security functions. Typical examples might include Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and customers who already have other firewalls in place to handle and screen HTTP traffic.

In these situations, Catapult Server may be configured to use any or all of its network adapter cards both for requests from clients and for requests to the Internet. In this scenario, client computers would connect to Catapult Server, Catapult Server would connect to a router/firewall and through there to the Internet.

To configure this scenario, the Local Address Table (LAT) for Catapult must be configured with all IP addresses/subnets which will be allowed to use Catapult's proxy cache. If any inbound client request is permitted, then the LAT should have the address range from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255.

Use the Setup program to configure the LAT table, as described in Chapter 3, “Server Installation.”
